Precise Microbiome Profiling in the Small Intestine Using the SIMBA Capsule with X-Ray Tracking
The Rosell® Institute for Microbiome and Probiotics, in collaboration with Nimble Science, is pleased to announce the publication of the manuscript titled “Spatially and Temporally Precise Microbiome Profiling in the Small Intestine Using the SIMBATM Capsule with X-Ray Tracking” in Frontiers of Microbiome.
This groundbreaking clinical study validates the in vivo use of the SIMBATM capsule for capturing small intestine (SI) microbiome samples before and after intervention. The results demonstrate the efficacy of Nimble’s novel passive sampling method, known as the Small Intestine MicroBiome Aspiration (SIMBA™) capsule, in real-time collection of probiotic ingestions from the small intestine.

The SIMBA™ capsule, developed and commercialized by Nimble Science, offers the first convenient, high-quality, and reliable method for studying the microenvironment of the SI. Its spatially and temporally precise multi-omic bioinformation about the small intestine opens new avenues for multiple research frontiers, including probiotics and host-microbiota interactions, nutrients absorption and disease mechanisms.
In a follow-up clinical study by Nimble Science, currently under review for publication, the study shows that samples collected with the SIMBA™ capsule are comparable to those obtained through traditional endoscopy and are suitable for multi-omics analyses.
